Miss D has created a new MODx addition: a nifty shopping cart snippet: "Shoppy". Shoppy is still rough on the edges and lacks documentation, but is promising.
Miss D considers her options:
Sell commercially, e.g. step out of Open Source, an idea which Miss D does not really like. She could keep the price on a 'for friends' level, like $10 or so...but what if she get locked into the project? Customers demanding updates without her being able to dedicate time to it for so little money?
Miss D prefers the other option. She shares Shoppy on the MODx Resources and asks the SnippetShop to adopt professional support for her new born. As the SnippetShop accepts her request, the result is beneficial to all:
- Shoppy is still open source and free, receiving contributions from the community
- Professional webbuilders will ask the SnippetShop to implement Shoppy on their site
- Miss D obtains a percentage of this support revenue
- The SnippetShop sends improvements of Shoppy in cooperation with Miss D, back to the community
